In 2007 IIASA held a major international conference on ‘Global Development: Science and Policies for the Future’ at the Hofburg, Vienna. The event attracted over 600 participants from across the globe and a number of eminent speakers ranging from Heinz Fischer, the President of Austria, to Lidia Britto, former Education and Science Minister in Mozambique, to Thomas Schelling, Nobel Laureate for Economics, to Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University.
